WHAT IS FEMALE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION?
Female sexual dysfunction refers to difficulties women may experience with desire, arousal, orgasm, or sexual satisfaction at any point in life.
It can affect emotional wellbeing, self-esteem, and intimate relationships. Female sexual dysfunction may arise from physical factors such as hormonal changes, medical conditions, pain during intercourse, or medication side effects.
Psychological and emotional factors - including stress, anxiety, past trauma, depression, body image concerns, or relationship issues - can also play a significant role. Often, multiple factors interact, making each woman’s experience unique.
Symptoms can include low sexual desire, difficulty becoming aroused, inability to reach orgasm, pain during sex, or decreased satisfaction.
The good news is that female sexual dysfunction is treatable. Through therapy, counselling, education, lifestyle adjustments, and sometimes medical interventions, women can better understand their bodies, overcome challenges, and enhance sexual wellbeing and intimacy.
Early recognition and support are key to improving quality of life.
